THE INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER

Author: International News

THE International Day of Prayer on Pentecost Sunday, 11 June 2000, will this year have as its prayer theme the International Millennial Congress, to be held in Atlanta from 28 June to 2 July 2000.

The General calls the Salvationists of the world to unite in prayer for this great event, and to pray specifically:

That the Holy Spirit will prepare the hearts and minds of all delegates to the congress.
That with sincerity of worship, the name of Jesus Christ will be glorified and God’s Kingdom extended.
That the flame of the Spirit of God will be fanned so that the whole world will be aware of his power through the witness and proclamation of all Salvationists.

The first International Day of Prayer in the present series was held in 1990 when the Salvationists of the world were called to pray for the international congress held that year. The response was so overwhelming that it was decided to make the International Day of Prayer an annual event – at least for some years ahead. But it is recognised that territories, divisions and corps have their own prayer emphases that rightly must be
promoted.

It is also recognised that ideas and concepts have their time and that it should not be expected that all ideas will continue indefinitely. It also seems fitting that, if the present series of International Prayer Days is to be wound up, it should happen at the end of a decade that began with prayer for an international congress and which ends with prayer for an international
congress.

The International Day of Prayer 2000 will therefore be the last in the present series.
